Hello, I'm Fred Levin.

I have a true love and passion for the sport of tennis. I enjoy everything about it. Learn more below about how I became involved in tennis and all the accomplishments I achieved throughout my career.

My Story

As a kid growing up in Lancaster, PA, I played all kinds of sports. I was most fascinated with tennis because my older brother played. I learned the game by reading, watching good players, and hitting against the wall at my elementary school. Once I could drive, I would travel far and wide for competition. My senior year in high school I finished second in the state high school championships and was recruited by the University of Pennsylvania where I played 4 years and also learned squash. I learned to string racquets in my spare time to make a little spending money. My sophomore year I was Eastern Intercollegiate champion.  By my senior year I was elected captain of both the tennis and squash teams. Our squash team was ranked second in the country and in tennis we won the Eastern Intercollegiate Conference. A highlight of my senior year was being asked to play an exhibition with Arthur Ashe as my partner. I continued to play in competition in dental school and played in Europe twice where I won a tournament in Nice, France. From there I went on to win the Middle States Clay Courts 3 times and The New England Championships. Overall, I played in 15 states and 10 countries.  While in dental school I also coached the Penn freshmen tennis and squash teams as well as the Israeli Junior Davis Cup Team, which I did for one summer. After retiring from dentistry, I acquired my own electronic stringing machine and worked on perfecting various stringing techniques. I also continue to play on 4 teams in Southwest Florida.

Q & A

are you Looking for expert tennis racquet stringing in the Naples & Fort Myers area?

We  provide top-notch stringing services to enhance your game. We use high-quality materials and the latest to ensure your racquet performs at its best. Trust us to get you back on the court with precision and care!

how often should a tennis racquet be strung?

A rule of thumb is as many times as you play per week you should string that racquet per year.  So if you play three times a week you would restring three times a year.  Strings lose tension and get less lively over time.  Elite players may only get a few hours out of a string job before it feels dead or breaks.

What are the different types of string?

There are 4 basic types of strings: synthetic gut, natural gut, multifilament, and polyester. Synthetic gut is a good all around string for recreational players and is inexpensive. Multifilament is a step up in performance, generally you'll get a little more power and spin but it frays over time. Polyester is used by a lot of elite players with high racquet speed as it allows them more control and spin with a harder swing although it can be very hard on the arm because of its stiffness. Natural gut is the gold standard for power, control, and comfort but it is the most expensive. Many elite players use a hybrid combination of poly and a softer string to get the benefits of both.

What type of racquet is best for me?

A lot of people ask me what racquet I recommend for them.  Most of your name brands are excellent like Head, Wilson, Babolot, Volkl, Yonex, and Technifibre. I would stay away from the cheap racquets sold at discount stores. Racquet sizes range from mid, which is below 105 square inches, to oversized and super oversized, which is 125-135 square inches.  Oversized racquets are more forgiving for recreational players and mid sizes have a smaller sweet spot but are more maneuverable and have more potential for power.  Super oversized racquets can be hard to control but many older players prefer them because of a larger sweet spot and no need to swing hard.

Do we string any other sports equipment?

We ONLY string tennis racquets.  We do not string badminton, squash, or racquetball racquets.  We don't sell equipment, racquets, shoes, or accessories.  We do one thing and one thing only, string tennis racquets, but we do it well!

what tension should you string your racquet at?

Most racquet manufacturers tend to recommend between 50-60lbs. I personally would lower that a few pounds for polyester because it is stiffer. In general you get more power from lower tension and more control with higher tension.  Elite players usually go with higher tension because they already have enough power. There are an infinite number of combinations you can do with tension, string type, and racquet type and there is no way to predict how the strings will play for you. It all comes down to personal preference.
